THE STORY:

AVON — One of Avon’s own family-owned restaurants is preparing to make its television debut.

Bubba’s-Q Bar-B-Q and Catering, 820 Center Road, will be highlighted on Episode 513 of ABC Television Network’s “Shark Tank” from 9 to 10 p.m. Friday.

The owner of Bubba’s-Q, Al “Bubba” Baker, will showcase his restaurant’s patented DeBoned Baby Back Rib Steak. For those unfamiliar with the popular reality television show, “Shark Tank” is a show featuring aspiring entrepreneurs giving business pitches to a panel of potential investors, known as “sharks.”

Baker will attempt to sell the “sharks” on his marinated, dry-rubbed ribs that can be ready to eat in just two minutes using nothing but a conventional microwave.

Being in the spotlight is nothing new to Baker, a former defensive end for the Cleveland Browns.

Since retiring from professional football and opening his restaurant in 2005, Baker has remained popular locally and nationally, coming in eighth place this year on USA Today’s list of 20 best athlete-owned restaurants.

Apart from being recognized by USA Today, Bubba’s-Q was awarded Cleveland Magazine’s Silver Spoon Award for “Best Ribs” and “Best Barbecue Restaurant” for four consecutive years.

Bubba’s-Q offers customers a full menu of barbeque cuisine such as ribs, homemade cole slaw, pulled pork and mac and cheese.
